Sarah James is the founder, editor-in-chief, and creative director of Clerestory Magazine, a freelance writer, and a culture columnist.
Clerestory provides space for writers, artists, and activists to explore the personal, spiritual, and social dimensions of human flourishing. Sarah oversees creative direction and editorial for the Clerestory’s umbrella of offerings, including but not limited to, the seasonal online magazine, the print volume on contemplation, and custom paper products.
Sarah writes a bimonthly culture column for Sojourners (online and in print), and her writing appears elsewhere, in Darling, Relevant, Patheos, Earth & Altar, The Porch, among others.
Shaped by her positionality as a biracial Indian-American woman and daughter of an immigrant, her work stands at the intersection of culture, the humanities, and social healing.
